How to Access Services

Any Essex County resident can be referred to the Essex County Mental Health Clinic - a professional referral is not necessary. Essex County Mental Health has open access. You can walk in between 9:00AM and 3:00PM Mon., Wed., Thurs., and Fri. and between 10:00AM and 3:00 PM on Tuesday to register for services.

Allow for at least one and a half hours to register. This is what you can expect:

After you complete paperwork in the waiting room you will be meeting with a member of our staff who will ask why you are here, whether anyone recommended or required you to come, how you are doing, what you would like to get out of your visit and how we can help.

There will be a brief safety assessment and some questions about your past and current mental health. You may be invited to sign releases to allow us to get records from other agencies.

If there is an emergency you will participate in the creation of a plan for safety. Everyone will be provided information regarding the use of our on call system.

You will start a comprehensive assessment to be completed in future appointments with your assigned therapist.

Our staff will tell you about the services we provide and your own role in treatment.

If you seek ongoing services you will be assigned a therapist and a member of our staff will be in touch within 3 business days with an appointment time.
